Pop-Up Event: The "Snow Storm" Hike
Proposed Date: Sunday, January 25th
With a "plowable" amount of snow in the forecast for this Sunday, we are planning a rare opportunity to experience the McKaig woods during the height of a winter storm. There is nothing quite like the silence and beauty of the forest as the snow falls, and we want to share that experience with you.
The Details
-
The Plan: This is a guided hike led by the Park Ranger. We intend to hike for approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, though the exact duration and route will be condition-dependent.
-
Stay Updated: Because storm timing can shift, pre-registration is required. We will use the registration list to contact you with real-time updates regarding start times or safety cancellations.
-
Cost: McKaig is a visitor-funded park. We request a donation (cash or Venmo) at the event to help us maintain the trails and continue our conservation work.
A Note for Adventurers
Please be aware that hiking during an active snowstorm is significantly more challenging than a typical winter walk.
-
Conditions: Expect reduced visibility, slippery terrain, forecast very cold temperatures, and unpredictable wind or cold.
-
Gear: Proper waterproof boots, layered winter clothing, and traction (like Yaktrax) are highly recommended.
-
Fitness: Attendees should be comfortable navigating rugged trails in deep snow.
If you are up for the challenge and want to experience the "wild" side of McKaig, please register today!
