The rain held off on Saturday March 24th for the start of our Spring Maintenance Morning. Two teams of resilient volunteers kept working when the sky clouded over and the rain began. Thanks to all, both teams accomplished their tasks.
Acting President Steve Patterson lead one team in removal of deer fencing near the Boltuch Bridge. Plant have recovered in that area and brush has been placed to discourage human foot traffic through "the Triangle" between Cadet Trail, Nancy Lang Trail and the Crow Creek. Please respect that area and help Nature re-vegetate that popular intersection.
Executive Director Russ Johnson organized a team to regrade around the back side of the Old Roberts Schoolhouse. A depression there was possibly causing water intrusion into the basement. Results of the team's spade work and tamping will not be known until the next big rain storm.
Our next Work Day will be held on Saturday, June 2nd, 2012 in conjunction with National Trails Day. Our Trails Committee will work to re-route a section of John Mason Trail to ease the grade and remediate an erosion problem. Improvements will be made to the Laurel Trail in the vicinity of Monkey Rock.
