Dinner Gala and Annual Meeting
The Dinner Gala and Annual Meeting for McKaig Nature Education Center (UM Park and Historic Foundation) will be held again at St. David's Golf Club on Thursday, April 10th.

This year we are honored to have as our speaker State Senator Daylin Leach, who represents the 17th District that includes McKaig Nature Education Center and Old Roberts School House. Senator Leach will address a number of issues important to the community and will entertain questions from the audience following his presentation.
In addition to celebrating our organization's 50th anniversary, we will be conducting a silent auction at the dinner that has many wonderful gifts, including a weekend on a sailboat in the Chesapeake Bay.

Specifics regarding time and schedule will be forwarded soon, information can also be found on EnjoyMcKaig.org

McKaig Video Debut
Making its debut at the Annual Gala Dinner is a video that has been 2½ years in the making.

"McKaig Nature Center: A Journey Through"

A walk through the seasons of McKaig through a child's eyes, a dog's eyes, a believer's eyes... Discover eighty-nine acres of serenity, nature and wonder that will envelop you and promise that you will take something magical back home with you.
2014 Memberships
Thank you again to all of our caring members who continue to make McKaig Nature Center a great place to learn, an environmentally responsible park and a fun place for all ages.

In 2014, we have ambitious plans to upgrade the McKaig property and Old Roberts Schoolhouse.  Sign up for membership now so that we can continue to maintain the trails, plants and wildlife of our beautiful park.
High School Senior Projects
High school seniors interested in learning about nature center operations, including trail management, coping with invasive plants and helping with group tours, among many other things, will find the perfect internship at the McKaig Nature Education Center.
"Previous interns have repaired trails, replaced signage and worked to prevent future storm water runoff damage" explains Christine W, Intern Coordinator. The focus and interest of the intern will guide the student's experience at the Nature Center.
Interested students should contact Christine via emailinfo@EnjoyMcKaig.org.

Guided Group Tours
McKaig Nature Education Center offers guided tours for groups. These walks are tailored to meet the needs of the group, like the recent family birthday outing for 28 people.
Additionally, we are seeking a few members to be guides. If you are interested, contact info@EnjoyMcKaig.org

3 Upcoming Scouting Projects
Three Eagle Scout candidates are planning to complete their service projects in McKaig Nature Center this spring and summer.
Christian M. of Devon Troop 50 is planning trail repairs in the area of White 21, just north of the Boltuch Bridge as well as storm water management measures to prevent further erosion.
Timmy B. of King of Prussia Troop 551 will be constructing a covered kiosk at the Southwest Brower Road entrance that will be similar to the kiosk at the Southeast Brower entrance. A retaining wall along with a gravel base is also planned.
Brandon P. also of Troop 551 will work to relocate the John Mason Trail, between Green 51 and 55. It is severely eroded and difficult to traverse.
Numerous scouting organizations continue to utilize McKaig Nature Education Center for many activities. Brownies and Cub Scouts visit the park to learn about the outdoors and the many plants and animals that can be seen along the trail system.
Snow and Ice damage
Middle Bridge on the Cadet Trail (White 23)
This winter's ice and snow storms ravaged our region. Especially hard hit were areas along the Gulph Mills - Malvern ridge, causing numerous days long power outages and significant property damage.
Our park was not spared as there are many felled trees and downed branches blocking trails and bridges. Thanks to Board Member Max K, the all volunteer Property Committee and the many visitors who pitched in, much of the damage has been cleared.
While visiting the trails, if you notice a branch or limb in the way, we ask if you could help out and move it off the trail, but remember, safety first.
